Outrage grows over isolation and lack of response raises accusations of "Crime"

Nova Sintra City, March 1, 2025 (Bravanews) - Frustration and indignation are reaching new heights on the island of Brava, with residents and emigrants expressing a sense of abandonment and accusing the government of negligence. The recent controversy involving the young candidate prevented from taking part in the Bank of Cape Verde (BCV) competition due to the island's isolation has served as a catalyst for growing discontent.

"This is a crime. It's like we don't belong to Cape Verde," says Carlos Spinola, a well-known social activist living in Pawtucket, USA, reflecting the sense of exclusion that many Bravenses, both residents and emigrants, feel. The lack of reliable maritime connections has been a persistent problem, affecting residents' daily lives and limiting their access to basic opportunities and services.

The criticism intensified after the authorities' response to previous comments on the transport issue. "Not long ago I commented on the transportation issue, and they responded as if I was mistaken. How it was guaranteed at least twice a week and overnight stays in Furna," recalls Carlos Spinola, referring to the guarantee of regular sea connections and overnight stays in the port of Furna.

However, the reality on the ground contradicts the official assurances. "There you have a good example of a bad example," says Spinola, referring to the case of the young candidate and her inability to fulfill her commitments.

The situation on the Brava raises questions about the effectiveness of maritime transport policies and the priority given to the outlying islands. The lack of an adequate response to residents' concerns fuels the perception that the island is being neglected and that their rights are being violated.

The growing indignation on Brava demands an urgent and effective response from the authorities. It is imperative that measures are taken to guarantee reliable and regular maritime connections that allow Brava residents to exercise their rights and access the same opportunities as the rest of Cape Verde's citizens.
